Abstract:: The National Council to Repeal the Draft (NCRD), organized in January 1969, worked to eliminate militaryconscription. Over forty organizations joined forces with NCRD to end the system of compulsory registration, classification, and induction. With a board power base the National Council to Repeal the Draft worked actively to get draft repeal legislation passed in Congress. With the official end of the draft on June 30, 1973, NCRD closed down its Washington operation in July of that year.

Abstract:: The Peace Action Center began in 1961 as a continuation of the vigil at Fort Detrick, Md. Peace activists had sponsored a continuous vigil as early as 1959 seeking the abandonment of biological weapons and appealed for the conversion of the fort into a world health center. The Peace Action Center included cooperative living quarters for the staff of religious pacifists, mostly Quakers. PAC staff including Lawrence Scott, director, and Jack L. Bagley, Sarah Bishop, Florence Y. Carpenter, Bertha Faust, William R. Martin, Gelston McNeil, and Patricia Parkman. The PAC disbanded in the fall 1963.

Abstract:: Founded in 1967 as Business Executives Move for Vietnam Peace; objectives were to press for practical steps toward ending American participation in the Vietnamese Conflict, to use the business community's influence in expanding public support for disengagement, and to emphasize the war's adverse effect on the economy; name of the organization was changed in 1970 to Business Executives Move for Vietnam Peace and New National Priorities, later (1973) shortened to Business Executives Move for New National Priorities. Henry E. Niles served as co-chairman of BEM with Harold Willens from 1967 to January 1969 and continued as chairman until the organization disbanded in 1982; successor organization: Business Executives for National Security, Inc.
