Abstract:: Herman Beerman (1901-1995) received his B.A. in 1923, his M.D. in 1927, and his Sc.D. in 1935 all from the University of Pennsylvania. He served an internship at the Mt. Sinai Hospital and his residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania before his appointment in the both the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine Department of Dermatology. The papers consist of correspondence, 1923, 1965-1978; copies of his curriculum vitae; information on the dinner held in his honor by the History of Dermatology Society in 1981; clippings; photographic prints; and other miscellaneous papers.

Abstract:: William Martin graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Medical School in 1786, and established a practice in Georgetown, VA. Three years later he returned to Chester, PA where he continued his medical career. The William Martin Papers consist of miscellaneous manuscripts that were bound by his grandson, John Hill Martin, around 1865. The documents include legal cases, medical observations, correspondence, speeches, and literary extracts in Martin's handwriting.

Abstract:: This notebook, kept by George Gillasspy (also "Gillaspy"), records the content of lectures delivered by Benjamin Smith Barton and Benjamin Rush at the University of Pennsylvania Medical School in 1797 and 1798. These lectures touch upon a wide range of topics within materia medica, physiology, pathology and therapeutics, and represent the foundations of late eighteenth century medical education.

Abstract:: This book of notes was kept by David Greenman during a course of Materia Medica lectures delivered by Dr. Adam Kuhn at the University of Pennsylvania Medical School in 1785. The lecture notes themselves are not limited to Materia Medica in the strictest sense, in that they also include some information about physiology, pathology and therapeutics. The notebook is briefly inscribed by Dr. Edward Cutbush (1772-1843) an officer and surgeon in the United States Navy.

Abstract:: Katharine "Kay" E. Reichert was an Air Force nurse who served with the Far East Air Force in Japan during the Korean War. After her return to the United States, Reichert earned her B.S. in Nursing Education from the University of Pennsylvania and then her M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. The bulk of this collection is comprised of photo albums and scrapbooks documenting daily life and excursions to destinations around Japan. Also included are official and personal papers and ephemera, yearbooks from Reichert's studies at the University of Pennsylvania, and artifacts such as medical bag and equipment, military insignias and honors, and door signs.
