Josiah Harmar Penniman Papers, 1706-1968 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Josiah Harmar Penniman was the fourteenth Provost of the University of Pennsylvania. This collection consists of two parts, the professional and personal papers of Josiah H. Penniman and papers of his family, mainly, his father James Lanman Penniman, his mother Maria Davis Hosmer, and his brother James Hosmer Penniman.

Abstract:: The University Film Collection documents University life, traditions, and activities during a period of change and growth. The bulk of the films were made for the purposes of public relations and document as well as celebrate anniversaries and focus on all aspects of the University.

I.S. (Isadore Schwaner) Ravdin Papers, 1912-1972 (inclusive)

Extent:: 189 cubic feet
Abstract:: I. S. Ravdin graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Medical School in 1918, and would spend the next fifty plus years of his career associated with Penn. During that period he rose to the posts of the John Rhea Barton Professor of Surgery, Director of the Harrison Department of Surgical Research, and Chief of Surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. During World War II Ravdin was Commander of the 20th General Hospital. The Papers of I. S. Ravdin reflect the entire range of his personal and professional interest, including his work as a surgeon, hospital administrator, military career, and private practice.
