Abstract:: Moshe Greenberg (1928-2010) was an American Jewish Rabbi, Bible scholar, professor of Oriental Studies at the University of Pennsylvania, and professor emeritus of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. This collection includes three folders of material that document a very small portion of Greenberg's work at the University of Pennsylvania, including correspondence with J.J. Finkelstein regarding the editing of E.A. Speiser's works; correspondence, proposals, and plans relating to the early days of the Modern Near East Language and Area Center; and correspondence, statistics, and reports of the Humanities Study Group.

Abstract:: Albert C. Barnes (1872-1951), an art collector and founder of the Barnes Foundation, had an uneasy relationship with the University of Pennsylvania, despite efforts on both parts to establish a collaboration in art education between the Barnes Foundation and the University. This collection contains primarily correspondence between Barnes (or the secretary of the Barnes Foundation, Nelle E. Mullen, on Barnes' behalf) and University of Pennsylvania officials, largely related to an effort to establish a joint Penn-Barnes course, which met for only a few sessions in 1946 before being called off by Barnes.

Abstract:: Consists of 15 boxes of Albert Croll Baugh's professional papers, including correspondence, research materials, a catalog of the book collection he donated to the University of Pennsylvania libraries, and reproductions of various medieval manuscripts. The correspondence is professional and overwhelmingly relates to Baugh's research. The research materials consist primarily of notes, unpublished article reviews, reprints of articles, and newspaper clippings, and make up the greater bulk of the collection. These materials cover Middle English, French and Anglo-Latin literature and literary history in the twelfth through sixteenth centuries. Specific topics covered in the research materials include Arthurian legends, Chaucer, Middle English language (including spelling, grammar and punctuation) and literature (especially romances, plays and lyric works), Piers Plowman, and the concept of the table dormant, as well as the teaching of English and the editing of medieval texts.
