Abstract:: Primarily correspondence related to Wood's activities in areas of peace, civil rights, African American education, and Quaker education. Wood was founding member of American Civil Liberties Union, American Friends Service Committee, and National Urban League. He was president of the Urban League for 26 years; elected in 1917 to Fisk University Board of Trustees; and a member of Haverford College Board of Managers. Correspondents include Jane Addams, Roger N. Baldwin, W. E. B. DuBois, Rufus M. Jones, Thomas Elsa Jones, Oswald Garrison Villard, Booker T. Washington and many others.

Abstract:: Anna Bassett Griscom (Elkinton) (1889-1974) was a prominent American Quaker active in the peace movement. She served as Executive Secretary of the Friends General Conference, chairman of a committee to organize the Friends World Conference held at Swarthmore College in 1937, chairman of the Friends Peace Committee of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, and was a founder of the Fellowship of Reconciliation. She married J. Passmore Elkinton in 1931. The collection includes correspondence, speeches and writings, and miscellaneous manuscripts of Anna B. Griscom. Of particular interest is material relating to Woodbrooke, a Quaker study center in England where she worked in 1914, and of the Friends World Conference in 1937.

Abstract:: Caroline Lucile Nicholson Jacob (1891-1991) was a teacher at Westtown School, a prominent Quaker boarding school in Chester County, Pa. She taught from 1916-1939 in the subjects of German, Bible, French, and History; from 1926-1939 she served as Assistant Principal. Jacob was a member of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), working in Europe after World War I with the American Friends Service Committee, active with the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, and authoring several books about Quakerism and individual Quakers. The Caroline Nicholson Jacob papers, 1920s-1982, document Jacob's travels, interests, and religious and social activities. Topics include her trips to Africa, Europe, the Western U.S., and to the Fourth Friends World Conference; her engagement to be married and her birthdays (including her 90th); and her time at Westtown School. Abstract:: A Friends World Conference Committee, sponsored by the Fellowship Council of the American Friends Service Committee, was established in 1932 to promote better understanding among Friends world wide. The representatives at the Second World Conference of Friends, held at Swarthmore and Haverford Colleges, Pa., in 1937, approved the establishment of a continuing international organization, a Friends World Committee, to promote international contacts and cooperation among Friends. In 1958, it was formalized as Friend World Committee for Consulation which meets triennially at different locations all over the world. FWCC's World Office is in London, England, and it has four sections: Africa, Americas, Asia and West Pacific, and Europe amd Middle East. FWCC's Section of the Americas is based in Philadelphia, Pa. This collection contains the records of the office of Friends World Committee for Consultation. Section of the Americas.
