Abstract:: Hannah A. Jennings was the daughter of Phebe (Glover) and John Clark of Gloucester, N.J. She married Levi Jennings, a bricklayer, in 1832. The collection contains correspondence (1805-1861), household accounts, and miscellaneous papers of Hannah A. Jennings, her husband, Levi Jennings, and her mother, Phebe (Glover) Clark Eldridge. Includes a manuscript account of a sermon by Priscilla Hunt at Merion in 1823, the renunciation of Maria Emily (Imlay) by Ann Jones in 1826, and letters discussing the Hicksite controversy.

Collection of papers concerning John Jackson, 1840-1900 (inclusive)

Abstract:: This is an artificial collection of papers concerning John Jackson, his spiritual teachings, and his religious mission to the West Indies. Included are essays by an unknown author, regarding John Jackson's views on Quaker ministry and doctrine as presented in his work"A Dissertation.. on Christian Ministry." An eight part manuscript entitled "Some account of the life and labors of John Jackson" is also unsigned. Also included is a bound volume of copies of letters written by John Jackson to his wife, Rachel, while he travelled on a religious mission in the West Indies with George Truman in 1840 and 1841. These letters describe the West Indies in detail and relate John Jackson's views on slavery and the difficulties they experienced as Hicksites. The original of one of these letters is also included.

Also included are a document from the Philadelphia Committee to Joseph Elkinton in Tunesassah (1822) and a subscription list (1831) for J.J. Foster's publication on the New Jersey Crosswicks trial, signed by Roberts Vaux and others.

Abstract:: George M. Justice was a successful Philadelphia merchant and important Hicksite Quaker. Southard, New Jersey lawyer and politician, concerning his defense of the Hicksite position in the trial over the Crosswicks School Fund at the time of the Separation in the Society of Friends. The School Fund of Crosswick Preparative Meeting, New Jersey, was claimed by both factions, Hicksite and Orthodox.
