Abstract:
The Gotham Book Mart (1920-2006) was one of New York City's most iconic bookstores during the 20th century. Founded by Frances Steloff (1887-1989), the daughter of poor Russian-Jewish immigrants, the Book Mart became a social center for the New York literati and a focal point for literary modernism in the United States. Steloff's successor, independent literary manuscript dealer Andreas Brown (1933-), maintained the store's focus on avant garde and small press publications while incorporating his own interests in postcards and genealogy. This collection contains 91 boxes of material relating to the daily operation of the Book Mart; correspondence, biographical, and legal material from both Brown and Steloff; postcard and genealogical material collected by Brown; photographs of the store, its employees, and events which took place there; and manuscripts and ephemera offered for sale.

Abstract:
Sanford Sorkin graduated from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School in 1963 with an interest in collecting stamps and other items of philatelic value. The collection consists of correspondence, miscellaneous documents, and ephemera such as postcards, tradecards, and stamped envelopes that Sorkin and his father collected more for their stamps and other evidence of early postal service than for their content. The materials are largely unrelated to one another aside from their philatelic interest.

Abstract:
The Training Fleet of the Imperial Japanese Navy, the Renshū Kantai, operated from 1903 to 1940. Graduates of the Imperial Japanese Naval Academy would spend several months in training deployment throughout the Pacific Ocean and beyond, occasionally venturing as far as the Mediterranean Sea or the East Coast of the United States. This scrapbook (digital facsimile) represents the collected travel ephemera and training manuals of an unidentified member of the June 9-November 3, 1936 transpacific cruise, during which the ships Yakumo and Iwate under the command of Vice-Admiral Zengo Yoshida traveled from Yokosuka to New York and back again.

Dorothy M. Buege (1915-2007), née Dorothy Meyer, was a resident of Kiel, Wisconsin who traveled with friends Eunice Becker and Louise Kissinger from July 28 to August 4, 1940, via Powers Tours of Chicago to east coast locations across Canada and the United States, including the 1939–1940 New York World's Fair. This annotated scrapbook, compiled by Dorothy, documents her travels via photographs, postcards, newspaper clippings, maps, ticket stubs, and receipts.

Abstract:
Two volumes comprised of 235 picture postcards compiled by an unnamed person, probably from Adelaide, South Australia. The postcards represent the compiler's journey throughout British occupied India spanning the years from 1907 to 1909. Twenty-eight postcards are of European cities. A majority of the postcards have handwritten commentary and remarks on the versos creating a postcard travel journal or diary.

Frederick P. Lee collection of World War I ephemera, 1914-1919 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Frederick P. Lee, an insurance agent, was born in 1880, in England. He immigrated to the United States in 1912 and lived in Santa Monica, California. A number of materials in this collection, including pamphlets and magazines, are stamped with the phrase, "With Compliments of Frederick P. Lee, Fellow of Royal Colonial Institute." As an Englishman living in the US during World War I, it is likely that Lee was interested in promoting England's role in the war and even encouraging US participation, since the US did not enter the war until 1917. The materials in this collection would have been part of that promotion/propaganda effort. This World War I collection includes magazines, serials, pamphlets, newspapers, maps, and postcards dated from 1914-1918. Most items are printed in England and concern England's role in the war.

Abstract:
The Common Press is the letterpress printing studio at the University of Pennsylvania and was founded at the University of Pennsylvania on January 17, 2006, the 300th anniversary of Benjamin Franklin's birth. It was conceived as an interdisciplinary project by Kelly Writers House (a writer-centered community founded at the University of Pennsylvania in 1995); the Kislak Center for Special Collections, Rare Books and Manuscripts; and the University of Pennsylvania Fine Arts program, to create an environment encouraging collaboration among students with an emphasis on working among digital and analog design, writing, and image making. Projects included in this collection, dated 1998 to 2016, consist of broadsides, posters, flyers, postcards, cards, and chapbooks, and were created using a variety of printing processes and techniques.

Abstract:
Wolrd's fairs and expositions have been held internationally from 1851 and continue into the present. This collection comprises written materials, memorabilia, and, to a more limited extent, other materials such as photographs and musical recordings from or related to world's fairs and expositions that took place between 1851 and 1992. Most expositions recognized by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) are represented, as well as many that are not officially recognized by the BIE. Some non-world's fair events are also represented to a limited extent. While events from around the world are featured in the collection, it primarily centers on expositions that occurred in the United States.
