Overview and metadata sections

John Whiting (1656-1722) was an English Quaker, well known as an author and minister. His parents were John and Mary Evans Whiting; he also had a sister, Mary Whiting (1654-1676). In 1703 he published the first Quaker bibliography.

According to Joseph Smith in his A Descriptive Catalogue of Friends' Books (1867), the manuscript volume had been in his possession but was subsequently sold to a Friend in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It came to Friends Library from the library of Charles Caleb Cresson in 1902.

Published in the Journal of the Friends Historical Society, 47:2, Autumn 1955.
