Overview and metadata sections
The Scientific Society of Swarthmore College was organized in 1880. In 1895, it was renamed the Joseph Leidy Scientific Society. Joseph Leidy (1823-1891) was a professor of anatomy at the University of Pennsylvania and a professor the natural sciences at Swarthmore College.
The organization was open to students, faculty and staff as well as local residents of the Borough of Swarthmore. Its mission was to keep abreast of developments in science.
This small collection contains the constitution and minute book (1902-1915) of the Joseph Leidy Scientific Society. Also a published paper by Ferris W. Price, "The Flora of Swarthmore and Vicinity," read before the Society in 1898.
