Overview and metadata sections

Barbara Berney is an associate professor of health policy and management at the CUNY School of Public Health. She has a PhD in public policy, an MPH in health administration, and a BA in political science. Much of her work focuses on health disparities, occupational health and safety, and environmental issues. She is currently working on a documentary entitled Power to Heal about Medicare and its role in the desegregation of American hospitals.

This collection is comprised of materials related to Barbara Berney's research interests in health care reform and environmental issues. Some of these materials may have been compiled as part of Dr. Berney's work on the documentary Power to Heal.

The collection is organized into three series: health care reform, environmental issues, and miscellaneous newsletter, poster, and VHS tapes.

The health care reform series includes articles, reports, press releases, briefings, newsletters, pamphlets, and other materials designed for dissemination to the public. Some materials are centered on local policies, while others are more nationally focused. This series also includes materials about health care reform as it relates to particular groups of people. Thus, there are folders for the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, women's health, and materials printed by AARP. Also included in this series are materials related to labor and occupational safety and health, public health resources, and community publications

The environmental issues series is comprised primarily of materials related to sustainable agriculture, environmental groups, and the effects of pollution and of U. S. militarism. These materials include reports and dissertations; newsletters to organization membership; pamphlets and other educational materials; and artifacts.

Some materials refer to both health and environmental issues. These materials can be found in the health care reform series.

Gifts of Barbara Berney, 2016 and 2019. The original gift is found in boxes 1 and 2. The 2019 gift is found in boxes 3 and 4.
