Overview and metadata sections
A brown oblong album containing photographs taken by an unknown person in Sri Lanka working at a British preparatory school. The photographs and items in the album span the years from 1919 to 1932. The album has "Snap shots" stamped in gold on the cover and "Braemar series" photo scrap album printed on the inside front cover. The volume contains fifty-three black-and-white photographs pasted on the first ten leaves in various sizes measuring from 1 1/2 x 2 1/2 inches to 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches. On the verso of some photographs are dates, locations, and names written in black ink. Laid in the album are seventy-seven photographs that are now housed in five folders. Also laid in the album, are nineteen leaves consisting of two letters, copied poems, and a few clippings of verse. The letters are unsigned. A majority of the photographs appear to have been taken at a preparatory school, possibly in Colombo, Sri Lanka with images of students and staff. In addition are photographs of excursions to Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Kitugala, and Adam's Peak in Sri Lanka. There are also images taken from trips to Penang and Agra in India. Two sets of photographs can be identified. These are snapshots and portraits taken in England. One set is of the Arnold family in England with images of Faith and Grace Arnold and their parents. The other set of photographs is of the Jones family. Comprising images of Herbert Gresford Jones (1870-1958) who was Bishop of Suffragan of Kampala, Uganda from 1920 to 1923 and Bishop of Warrington from 1927 to 1945 among other positions held in the Church of England. Photographs of Jones' wife Elizabeth Howard Fox Hodgkin (1873-1972) and his son Edward Michael Gresford Jones (1901-1982), who was Bishop of St. Albans in England are included.
