Overview and metadata sections
Terregles House was built in the late eighteenth century and was the seat of the Maxwell family, the Earls of Nirthdale, until the early 20th century. It was used briefly during World War II by the Norwegian military and was demolished in the 1960s after it fell into disrepair.
This volume contains a catalog of more than 800 books in the Terregles Library of Terregles House, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland in 1855. The titles are listed alphabetically by author and focus largely on classical theological and philosophical subjects; but also include titles relating to Scottish history and society, British architecture and antiquities, and poetry. There is full binding paper over board, a manuscript cover title, and marbled textblock edges. There blank pages after each letter; and the volume is blank after page 74.
