Overview and metadata sections

The creator of this volume is unknown.

This volume contains 236 culinary, medicinal, and household recipes written and compiled by an unknown individual, possibly in New Jersey in the 1920s.

It is bound in marbled paper boards with black electrical tape added to reinforce the binding. There are several blank pages (p. 15-28, 58-72, 121-124, 128-130, 133-135, 138-140, 147-152, 156-158, 154-168).

There are references to New Jersey in this volume, including Mantoloking (p. 4) and Spring Lake (p. 10). There is also a significant number of recipes for oyster dishes in this volume (p. 87-92) and a list titled "Don'ts, Worth Knowing" (p. 177-178) that appears to relate to fire prevention and household safety. The majority of the recipes are culinary, but there are also medicinal and household recipes at the end of the volume (p. 162-180).

Examples of recipes in this volume include lady cake (p. 7), white mountain cake (p. 9), entire wheat cookies (p. 14), sliced bananas (p. 29), apple fritters (p. 33), floating island with jelly (p. 41), apple dowdy (p. 53), pistachio cream (p. 56), Sallie Lunn (p. 75), sour milk corn cake (p. 83), oyster rarebit (p. 92), sweet bread salad (p. 101), potatoes a la royal (p. 119), oysters a la Newburg (p. 136), eggnog (p. 145), chicken soup for invalids (p. 161), for croup (p. 162), Robinson's patent barley (p. 163), and to remove mildew (p. 169).
