Overview and metadata sections

Vellum covered volume containing culinary recipes, drawings, and printed illustrations compiled by Miss Stockely of England spanning the years from 1833 to circa 1880. Miss Stockley, Nov. 20th, 1833 is written on the first leaf. There are over ninety recipes in the volume. The recipes include cakes, jellies, marmalades, puddings, rolls, sauces, stews, vinegars, and wines. Cake and jelly recipes are for both sweet and savory varieties. Most of the recipes have attributions including Miss Stockley and Mrs. Stockley. There are a few household recipes and prescriptions. Unsigned, original drawings are pasted throughout the volume and below some recipes. A hand-drawn hymeneal pyramid is pasted on the verso of the second leaf. Pasted in the volume are: a rebus puzzle on the places of England, printed illustrations some with embossed or lace printed borders, and chromolithographs of English Kings from die-cut scrap sheets are on the rectos of leaves following the recipes. A Japanese print of butterflies with text is pasted on one leaf. The volume is chiefly written in the hand of Stockley in addition to at least one other hand. The letter P is written on the spine in black ink. The stationer's label of F. B. Spiller is pasted on the inside front cover.
