Overview and metadata sections

Leather and marble-paper bound, ruled volume containing the recipes of an unknown person who lived in England spanning the years from 1864 to 1869. The volume comprises culinary recipes, medicinal remedies, and household formulas. The book is semi-arranged into unnamed sections with each one seemingly divided by several blank leaves. Cooking recipes are at the beginning and continue through the middle of the volume. The first fifteen pages comprise pudding recipes, followed by meats, vinegars, salad dressings, drinks, cakes, biscuits, pickling, and lastly a section on wines. Medicinal recipes for hydrophobia (rabies), cholera, and coughs are included. There are recipes for household chores and advice for cleaning and mending. Additionally, a few recipes for toiletries are included with one dated October 1869. Pasted on the inside front cover are three newspaper clippings, two are dated 1864. The items regard a treatment for wasp stings and preventative measures for yellow fever and small pox. Pasted on the recto of the front endpaper is a handwritten recipe for mince pie. Written on the recto of the rear endpaper is "Beetons 'all about it' books/All about cookery." The volume has marbled edged leaves and marbled endpapers.
