Overview and metadata sections
Elizabeth Slusser Kelly was born in 1938 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Kelly received her J.D. from Southern Illinois University School of Law where she stayed to serve as their law library's Director. In 1984, Kelly assumed the position of the Director of the Biddle Law Library at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School. As Director of the Biddle Law Library, Kelly oversaw a reorganization of the library, and then, its relocation and expansion to Tanenbaum Hall which was constructed in 1993. During this time, Kelly also worked on aggregating and publishing UCC drafts of the American Law Institute (ALI) and Uniform Law Commission (formerly NCCUSL). Kelly, along with research assistants and colleague Ann Puckett, published two sets of draft volumes for the Uniform Commercial Code, the first in 1984 and the second in 1995. Kelly retired in 2001 and became the first woman emeritus faculty member in the history of the Law School. Kelly passed at the age of 72 in 2010.
The Elizabeth Kelly Research Files contain materials created during the research and publication process of previously unpublished confidential drafts of the Uniform Commercial Code and is organized into two series.
Series I: Administrative Files, 1972-2000, contains correspondence, notes, and photocopies compiled during Kelly's research, drafting, and publication process. This series is organized alphabetically.
Series II: Resources, 1940-1990, contains a compilation of sources a majority of which are photocopied versions of materials located by Kelly in various repositories or personal collections as well as bound reproductions of drafts and some original drafting materials which are notated as in the collection inventory as being original materials. This series is organized chronologically.
