Overview and metadata sections
Susan Molofsky Todres is an alumna of the University of Pennsylvania holding a BA (1975) from the College of Liberal Arts for Women (now the School of Arts and Sciences) and an MBA (1977) from the Wharton School. While a student at Penn she wrote for the Daily Pennsylvanian and was a member of the Sphinx Honor Society, Mortar Board, the Student Activities Council, and chaired the Student Blood Donor's Club. She has been active in alumni groups and activities, such as the Board of Advisors for the School of Social Policy and Practice. Her most active work has been with the University Archives and the Trustees' Council of Penn Women. She co-chaired the Advancement of Women Faculty Committee of the Trustees' Council, served on the Executive Board as marketing co-chair, and participated in the planning and activities of the Celebration of 125 Years of Women at Penn in 2001. Susan has been an active donor to the collections of the University Archives expanding its documentation of Penn's history and the student and alumni experience. In 2006 her donations formed the core component of an exhibit on Penn history at College Hall and in 2015 a display of Penn memorabilia at the Craig Sweeten Alumni Center. In 2010 Susan received Penn's Alumni Award of Merit.
This collection documents various aspects of the history of the University of Pennsylvania from the eighteenth to twentieth centuries. The material culture history of the university forms a large and unique part of the collection. It provides insights into the creation of an institutional identity at Penn among its students, faculty and alumni particularly from the 1880s to 1950s. Many of the objects reflect the broader commercialization of the college education experience in the United States.
Gifts have been incorporated into appropriate existing collections over the course of the past 20 years, and as a result the materials are physically held in many different locations. In order to request material for research, please use the record group call numbers in the inventory to consult those collection inventories. For example, consult the University Memorabilia Collection inventory for exact box and item information for all gifts labeled as MEM in this guide.
