Overview and metadata sections

The James Tyson Medical Society was founded on February 3rd, 1897 for any student interested in scientific knowledge at the University of Pennsylvania. The Society existed until 1913, with Dr. Tyson attending and presenting at several of the meetings. Receptions, presentations, and papers of the society are discussed in the meeting minutes.

This collection contains one volume of meeting minutes for the James Tyson Medical Society, a biographical sketch of Dr. Tyson, and a volume of biographies of the society's members. Within the meeting minutes there are the membership roosters, rolls, and the reports of the treasurer, with a time span of October 1900 until January 1913.

The meeting minutes of the Society was purchased by the Archives in November 2011 (Accession #2011:65). The biographical sketch of James Tyson and history of the Society were previously in the Archives collections.
