Overview and metadata sections
Antonin Raymond (1888-1976) was an architect who practiced in the United States and Japan. He collaborated extensively with his wife, Noemi Pernessin Raymond, and is best known for a series of structures built in Japan during the 1930s. The Raymonds had a distinct and creative style that combined their European modern roots with the vernacular craft traditions they discovered in Japan, India, and rural Pennsylvania. Their prolific careers included designs for factories, office buildings, churches, and schools as well as furniture, fabrics, and graphic design. They also worked with Frank Lloyd Wright, Cass Gilbert, Isamu Noguchi, George Nakashima, and Fernand Lger.
The Antonin Raymond papers includes typed manuscript drafts of Raymond's autobiography, photographs of Antonin and Noemi Raymond and others, letters to or from Antonin Raymond, and 4 Raymond and Rado firm brochures.
Gift of Mr. and Mrs. Yasuchika Nishijima in 2003.
