Campbell was born in Newark, N.J., on June 10, 1910 and he went on to school at M.I.T. and Duke. Campbell worked in the research dept. of MackTruck and Carleton Ellis Chemicals, and between 1937 and 1971 edited Astounding Science Fiction (later Analog) and received numerous Hugo Awards for Editing. Campbell's novels included The Mightiest Machine, The Incredible Planet, and Islands of Space.

This small collection of letters and publishing contracts documents the professional activities of this American science fiction writer. Much of the correspondence comes from Melvin Korshak of Shasta Publishers regarding two anthologies, Who goes there? and Cloak of Aesir. Included are the publishing agreements between Campbell and Shasta Publishers for thesetwo books. Some of the correspondence emanates from Campbell as the editor of Astounding Science-Fiction, published by Street and Smith Publications, Inc., to Korshak.
