Overview and metadata sections

Dr. Ludwig Loeb, an obstetrician, graduated from Jefferson Medical College in 1890. He served as medical director for the Jewish Maternity Hospital and medical chief of the Jewish Hospital. Loeb married Agnes Stern in September 1900 with whom he had two children, David and Adrian. Loeb died May 4, 1957.

The collection consists of two handwritten songbooks containing Jewish liturgical music and verse, primarily for the high holidays, written in a mix of Hebrew script, transliterated Hebrew into the Latin alphabet, and German. One of the songbooks bears the title "Judische-Gesönge fur L. Löb" on the front cover. Also included are two photographs of Ludwig Loeb and two unidentified individuals in a German cemetery.

Donated by the estate of Florence Loeb in September 1997. Collection previously administered by the Philadelphia Jewish Archives Center, acquired by Temple in June 2009.
