William Beatty resided at 913 Rodman Street, Philadelphia, prior to the war. After being stationed at Camp Hamilton, Beatty was assigned to Company D, 152nd Regiment of the 3rd Artillery. Beatty died of chronic diarrhea on Nov. 11, 1864.
Letters to and from a Philadelphia Union soldier concerning conditions at Camp Hamilton, focusing on food and daily routines. Beatty also comments on the nature of war and specifics of combat during the Civil War. Collection also includes notification of Beatty's death and documents related to his pension.
