Overview and metadata sections

Jesse Lare (1921-1998) and Mildred Patterson Lare (1923-1978) of the Fishtown section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, met in 1944. They corresponded daily from 1944 to 1945, while Jesse, who was Master Sergeant in the army, was stationed in Washington, DC, Mississippi, and Tennessee. Mildred remained in Philadelphia during that time, working at the Kensington National Bank. They married in January 1945.

This collection consists of approximately 500 letters, telegrams, cards, and other materials, written between Mildred Adele Patterson and Master Sergeant Jesse Lare, during their World War II courtship and marriage, from June 1944 to December 1945. Their letters discuss their relationship, families, work, and daily lives.
