Thomas Kinsella, poet, scholar, publisher and Irish civil servant, was born and educated in Dublin. Kinsella initially worked in several posts in the Irish Civil Service and then was poet-in-residence, 1965-67, at Southern Illinois University. Since 1967 he has been Professor of English at Temple University. Since the Starlit eye (1952), his first volume of poetry, Kinsella has published more than 30 volumes of poetry. He has won several awards for his poetry including the Guiness Poetry Award (1958) for, Another September. He has also written critical works and translated four volumes of poetry from Gaelic.

Sixteen page original typescript of an interview with Kinsella. Text has extensive pencilled corrections in the poet's hand on every page. Kinsella's deletions and additions transform the style of the text from casual oral style to a more precise form suitable for publication. In the interview Kinsella discusses his early days in Dublin and his writing philosophy.

Purchased from Joseph the Provider, October 10, 1986.
