Overview and metadata sections
Throughout Woodford's history as a house museum a number of articles were written about the house and the objects within by outside researchers as well as former guides and trustees. This collection holds these various publications as well as an article from 1909 about Naomi Wood's house in Paoli. The collection holds the entire publication the articles are found within rather than clippings of the articles.
This collection also includes a Woodford scrapbook that was created sometime during the Larry Berger trusteeship (1986-2018), likely in the 1990s considering the most recent record found within was from 1992. The scrapbook has a number of different publications, including newspaper clippings, booklets, pamphlets, and more.
The collection is comprised of two parts: General publications and a Woodford Scrapbook. The publications and Woodford Scrapbook series are arranged alphabetically. In addition to a variety of publications, the scrapbook also includes correspondence, maps, and ephemera. Collection mediums include paper, bound, and photographic records.
General This series holds predominantly popular publications that contain articles related to Woodford Mansion and it’s collections. The October 1909 issue of Philadelphia Suburban Life is the only publication made prior to the creation of the Woodford Mansion house museum but the article within is about Naomi Wood’s collection of decorative arts at her Paoli home, many of which became fixtures of Woodford’s collections. Some of the articles are written by former Woodford trustees and guides. This series also includes different iterations of the first comprehensive Naomi Wood collection guide book, which was created by Woodford trustee John P. B. Sinkler. One record of note is the Lita H. Solis-Cohen annotated guide book, which contains detailed annotations of each room and the objects within from a former Woodford house guide. Woodford Archives Scrapbook The Woodford Archives Scrapbook was likely assembled sometime in the 1990s, as the final records of the scrapbook cover 1992. The complete range of the materials is 1898-1992 and includes booklets, pamphlets, correspondence, ephemera, Fairmount Park Commission records, maps, clippings, and other publications. The scrapbook was arranged in chronological order, but was disassembled from its binder pages and broken into the various subjects found in this series. The original order of the records was broken in favor of long term preservation, although each folder is still arranged chronologically, thus researchers can get a sense of the original order through this arrangement.
Records in this collection were left to Woodford Mansion by various trustees and house managers.
