Overview and metadata sections

Lester M. Landes was born on February 23, 1904 in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. He was an active local historian in Worcester Township who was involved with the Worcester Historical Society and also acted as church historian for Wentz's United Church of Christ. When Landes died in October of 1983, he was buried in the cemetery of Wentz's United Church of Christ.

The bulk of this collection is 20 clippings scrapbooks, 1970-1983, which focus on Worcester and surrounding areas but also include articles on unrelated topics. In addition, the collection includes a portfolio of Bicentennial-edition newspapers, and numerous photocopied newspaper articles. Of special interest are four binders of material copied by Landes: "Sketches of Worcester Township" by Edward Matthews, 1896-1930, and excerpts from Montgomery Transcript, 1888-1952.

Gift of Lester M. Landes, circa 1983.
