The Pottstown Iron Company was incorporated in 1866 and by the mid 1890s employed over 2,000 workers. The company, which was located in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, had large rolling mills, a blast furnace, nail factory, and steel works.

This collection is comprised of financial records and correspondence of the Pottstown Iron Company The financial records consist of a large number of bills paid, stock certificates and dividends; and a small number of various account, bank, tax, and insurance records. There are several volumes in the collection: stock register, 1899-1905; financial ledger, 1901-1919; and stock receipts, 1867-1875. There is also a large amount of correspondence, both outgoing and incoming.

Summary descriptive information on this collection was compiled in 2011-2012 as part of a pilot project conducted by the Historical Society of Pennsylvania to make better known and more accessible the largely hidden collections of small, primarily volunteer run repositories in the Philadelphia area. The Hidden Collections Initiative for Pennsylvania Small Archival Repositories (HCI-PSAR) was funded by a grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

This is a preliminary finding aid. No physical processing, rehousing, reorganizing, or folder listing was accomplished during the HCI-PSAR project.
