Overview and metadata sections

Theodore B. Culver (1861-1928) was a wealthy mill-owner in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania. His wife was Anne Jane Skilton Wallace (1867-1957), who established the Jenkintown Day Nursery in 1903.

The Theodore B. and Annie Wallace Culver receipted bills, 1912-1914, are from various vendors in the Jenkintown area and Philadelphia and include: Atlantic Refining (Philadelphia, auto gasoline), David Bates (Jenkintown, meats), Finley Acker (Philadelphia, groceries), John Haag Co. (Philadelphia, produce), W. F. Haas (Jenkintown, dairy and farm produce), Oliver K. Reed (Philadelphia, laundry), C. Orris Riggins (Jenkintown, groceries), H. & A. Shaffer (Jenkintown, plumbing), and Wanamakers. There are also receipts for charitable contributions, paid wages, collected rents, and other miscellany. There is a 1978 biographical sketch of Annie Wallace (Mrs. Thomas B.) Culver, written by her daughter Anne Gleysteen Kramer and Ruth S. MacKenney and based on Culver’s diaries, 1901-1903, with extracts pertaining to the beginning of the Jenkintown Day Nursery.

In part gift of Samuel R. Boggs II, 2003.
