Overview and metadata sections

Howard Keller was a resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and was active with Mummers clubs.

The Mummers Parade is an annual New Year's Day event in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Local clubs devise elaborate costumes, scenery, and routines for a march through the city streets that some consider the oldest folk festival in America.

These musical arrangements were created by Howard Keller. Keller was active with Mummers Clubs, and it is likely that at least some of these arrangements were used in Mummers Parades. The dates of creation are unknown, but based on the likely copying method, it appears that the arrangements fall within the range of 1960 to 1990.

Gift of Ruth and Howard Keller, 1998 (accession #98.16).
