Overview and metadata sections
Limerick Township, in what is now Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, was incorporated in 1726. It originally included the river crossing community of Royersford (established as a separate borough in 1879). In 1777, George Washington passed through the area, staying at the Mordecai Evans house in Linfield in 1777. In the 1810s, its population surpassed 1,000 people and its first permanent church edifice, the Limerick Union Church (hosting the Lutheran and Reformed (UCC) denominations), was dedicated. Limerick's first public school district was formed in 1852. In 1866, the first major industrial presence in Limerick Township, March, Sisler & Co., moved its factory to the area. Later significant factories in the area included the Kinsey Distillery and the Limerick Nuclear Power Plant.

This collection consists of over two-dozen newspaper clippings scrapbooks created by members of the Limerick Township Historical Society. The newspaper articles focus on Limerick township and local history. There is a subject index to the collection available on site.

Summary descriptive information on this collection was compiled in 2011-2012 as part of a pilot project conducted by the Historical Society of Pennsylvania to make better known and more accessible the largely hidden collections of small, primarily volunteer run repositories in the Philadelphia area. The Hidden Collections Initiative for Pennsylvania Small Archival Repositories (HCI-PSAR) was funded by a grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
This is a preliminary finding aid. No physical processing, rehousing, reorganizing, or folder listing was accomplished during the HCI-PSAR project.
