Abstract:

Daniel Cassel (1816-1892) was a storekeeper in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The Daniel Cassel ledgers, 1859-1902, consist of ledgers of Cedars/Cedar Hill store, and estate ledgers of Daniel Cassell.

Daniel Cassel (1816-1892) was a storekeeper in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. He married Mary R. Reiff in 1826 and settled in Harmony Square, Pennsylvania. "Daniel Cassel was engaged in mercantile business for eleven years. Then he bought a property at Cedars, in Worcester township, [Montgomery] county, and followed the mercantile business for thirty-two years at that place with great success. He was also instrumental in getting a post office established at that place, called Cedars, of which he was postmaster for about ten years. He retired from business in 1888, and died in 1892."

This collection consists of ledgers of Cedars/Cedar Hill store, and estate ledgers of Daniel Cassell. There are eight volumes: Cedars Store ledger (1886-1892), ledger (1885-1888), Cedar Hill ledger (1880-1886), ledger (1893), account book (1845-1880 and 1859-1862), cash book, "Inventory of goods and chattels, rights and credits of Daniel Cassel, dec'd" (circa 1898-1902). There is also a book of German psalms belonging to Abraham Cassel.
