Overview and metadata sections
Thomas H. Hibbert lived in Trenton, Mercer County, New Jersey.
There was a Thomas Henry Hibbert (1862-1922) who worked as a pottery decorator for the Lennox Pottery Works in Trenton, NJ at the same time period as these lantern slides were taken, but it is unclear if this is the same Hibbert who created the slides.
The Thomas H. Hibbert lantern slides, circa 1890s-1900s, consist of approximately two hundred and eighty-six lantern slides. The images depict scenery, buildings, bridges, and other outdoor images from California, Nevada, Texas, Utah, Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Missouri, Oklahoma, Arizona, and New Mexico. Each slide measures 3.25" x 4". An inventory of the collection is available on-site.
Summary descriptive information on this collection was compiled in 2014-2016 as part of a project conducted by the Historical Society of Pennsylvania to make better known and more accessible the largely hidden collections of small, primarily volunteer run repositories in the Philadelphia area. The Hidden Collections Initiative for Pennsylvania Small Archival Repositories (HCI-PSAR) was funded by a grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
This is a preliminary finding aid. No physical processing, rehousing, reorganizing, or folder listing was accomplished during the HCI-PSAR project.
In some cases, more detailed inventories or finding aids may be available on-site at the repository where this collection is held; please contact The Historical and Interpretive Collections of The Franklin Institute directly for more information.
