Overview and metadata sections

"The Brandywine Battlefield National Historic Landmark was dedicated on January 20, 1961. Today, it is part of the municipalities of Birmingham, Kennett, Pennsbury, Thornbury, and Westtown, Chester County, and Chadds Ford Township, Delaware County. The Brandywine Battlefield Task Force (BBTF) was formed in 1993 as a volunteer group of municipal, state, and federal representatives along with non-profit institutions."

BBTF's mission is: "the implementation of public and private partnerships to preserve the Brandywine Battlefield National Historic Landmark planning area; to educate the community about its cultural resources; to develop interpretation of the Battle and its historical and physical setting."

BBTF is composed of representatives from: the municipalities within the landmark, Delaware and Chester Counties, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Chadds Ford Historical Society, Friends of Brandywine Battlefield Historic Site, the Brandywine Conservancy, the Natural Lands Trust, the National Park Service, and Valley Forge National Historic Site.

The second series, "B", includes research about the Battle of the Brandywine such as clippings, photocopies of published articles, and photocopies of primary source documents.

The Chadds Ford Historical Society is the repository for Brandywine Battlefield Task Force records.

Summary descriptive information on this collection was compiled in 2012-2014 as part of a project conducted by the Historical Society of Pennsylvania to make better known and more accessible the largely hidden collections of small, primarily volunteer run repositories in the Philadelphia area. The Hidden Collections Initiative for Pennsylvania Small Archival Repositories (HCI-PSAR) was funded by a grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

This is a preliminary finding aid. No physical processing, rehousing, reorganizing, or folder listing was accomplished during the HCI-PSAR project.

In some cases, more detailed inventories or finding aids may be available on-site at the repository where this collection is held; please contact Chadds Ford Historical Society directly for more information.
