Abstract:
The Records of the Advisory Council on College Chemistry consist mainly of the administrative records of the council, as well as some images, correspondence, grants, and proposals.

The idea for the Advisory Council on College Chemistry (also referred to as AC3) took shape in 1961. A grant from the National Science Foundation allowed the council to become a reality at Stanford University in 1962. The Advisory Council on College Chemistry aimed to improve the quality of chemical education at the 2-year and junior college levels. The council's first meeting was held in March 1963 and Charles C. Price was named Chairman. The Advisory Council on College Chemistry hosted and its members attended several conferences. By 1967, the council also offered consultant services. Congressional budget cuts caused the cessation of the Advisory Council on College Chemistry's activities and its services were formally terminated on February 28, 1970.

The Records of the Advisory Council on College Chemistry were donated to the Science History Institute (formerly known as the Chemical Heritage Foundation) by Malcom M. Renfrew in 1989.

The Records of the Advisory Council on College Chemistry were processed by Andrew Mangravite in 2016. This finding aid was revised by Birch Mezzaroba in March 2022.
