Louis Anthony Kazal graduated from Seton Hall College in South Orange, New Jersey (1935), and received his Ph.D. from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey (1940). He was hired by Merck Sharp & Dohme Corporation as a research biochemist where he remained until 1957. In 1957, Kazal joined the staff of the Cardeza Foundation at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He retired from Jefferson Medical College as a Professor of Physiology and an Associate Professor of Medicine in 1978.

The Louis A. Kazal Papers contain the personal papers of American chemist Louis A. Kazal. The collection is arranged into the following two series:

The Louis A. Kazal Papers were donated to the Science History Institute (formerly the Chemical Heritage Foundation) by Louis A. Kazal in two installments: 2004 and 2011.
The Louis A. Kazal Papers were processed by Marguarita Schmidt. The addenda to the Louis A. Kazal Papers were processed by Andrew Mangravite in 2017. The finding aid was encoded into EAD by Kenton G. Jaehnig in 2021.
