Fesquet was a chemist and engineer. He attended the Ecole Centrale des Arts et Manufactures in France in the 1850s.

These student notes were taken between 1854 and 1856 by Fesquet while he attended analytical chemistry courses at the Ecole Centrale des Arts et Manufactures in France.

Fesquet presented the notebooks to the Franklin Institute on December 12, 1895.
