Overview and metadata sections

Swannanoa Valley Preparative Meeting began under the care of Asheville Monthly Meeting (part of Southern Appalachian Yearly Meetnig and Associtaion) in September 1996. It traces its history to 1994 as a mid-week worship group, shifting to a First Day worship group in early 1996, and it was set off as a monthly meeting in 1997.

Swannanoa Valley Monthly Meeting left SAYMA at the end of 2021 after a year of concern over management and budgeting for SAYMA's Uplifting Racial Justice Committee. The meeting is active and independent.

Records include both physical and born-digital records. The collection includes a nearly comprehensive run of minutes, membership directories and reports, State of the Meeting reports, a sampling of committeee records (including Peace and Social Concerns and Ministry and Counsel), and miscellaneous records largely related to the history of the meeting and its affiliation and disaffiliation with SAYMA.

Deposits, Swannanoa Valley Friends Meeting.
