Overview and metadata sections
Charleston, West Virginia was home to a Quaker worship group beginning in 1962. They first affiliated with FWCC as a monthly meeting in 1965, and in late 1976 joined the newly established Southern Appalachian Yearly Meeting and Association (SAYMA).
Charleston Friends Meeting officially disaffiliated from SAYMA in 2022 after concerns about Quaker business procedures and financial priorities related to the SAYMA URJ (Uplifting Racial Justice) group. It is currently an active independent monthly meeting.
The Charleston Friends Meeting records include newsletters (which include the prior month's business minutes) for some of the 1960s, 1980s, and 1990s, and a more complete run from 2000-2023. Paper records include a 1981 membership list and guestbook from the late 1960s. 2023 records were deposited digitally, and include business minutes and financial and Treasurer records.
