Stroudsburg Preparative Meeting of Friends (Hicksite)

Abstract:

An indulged meeting at Stroudsburg was established by Richland Monthly Meeting in 1809. In 1811, the meeting for worship and a preparative meeting were established by Abington Quarterly Meeting. The meetings were transferred to Stroudsburg Monthly Meeting in 1815. Two branches were established at the time of the Separation. After Stroudsburg Monthly Meeting (Orthodox) was discontinued in 1839, the preparative meeting was attached to Abington Monthly Meeting. The preparative meeting and meeting for worship were discontinued in 1857. Stroudsburg became an indulged meeting under the care of Horsham Preparative Meeting from 1857-1870 and then under Frankford Preparative Meeting of Frankford Monthly Meeting. Stroudsburg Indulged Meeting was discontinued in 1883. Stroudsburg Preparative Meeting (Hicksite) was transferred to Richland Monthly Meeting in 1827. The Hicksite preparative meeting was discontinued in 1930.
