This is a finding aid. It is a description of archival material held at the Quaker Meeting Records at Haverford College Quaker & Special Collections and Friends Historical Library of Swarthmore College. Unless otherwise noted, the materials described below are physically available in their reading room, and not digitally available through the web.

Overview and metadata sections

An indulged meeting at Pennsbury was established by Falls Monthly Meeting in 1814. It was discontinued in 1815, then re-established in 1816. The preparative meeting was established by Bucks Quarterly Meeting in 1818. The Orthodox branch of the preparative meeting was discontinued in1827, and its members transferred to Falls Preparative Meeting. The meeting for worship was discontinued in 1828. The Hicksite preparative meeting and meeting for worship were discontinued in 1865 and the members attached to Falls Preparative Meeting. An indulged meeting at Pennsbury was granted by Falls Monthly Meeting in 1868; it opened in 1869 and was discontinued in 1894.

Biographical / Historical

Official records of proceedings kept for all Quaker business meetings. Only Quakers could participate. It has responsibility for care of members, authorizes removals and marriages, maintains discipline, considers the queries, manages meeting property, fosters social concerns, and reports regularly to the quarterly meeting. Beginning at the end of the 19th century, men and women ceased to hold separate business meetings, meeting instead in joint session.
