This is a finding aid. It is a description of archival material held at the Quaker Meeting Records at Haverford College Quaker & Special Collections and Friends Historical Library of Swarthmore College. Overview and metadata sections
Makefield Monthly Meeting was established in 1820 by Bucks Quarterly Meeting out of Falls Monthly Meeting. At the time of the Hicksite Separation of 1827, the meeting split into Hicksite and Orthodox branches. Makefield Monthly Meeting (Orthodox) was discontinued later in 1827, and its members were attached to Falls Monthly Meeting (Orthodox). Makefield Monthly Meeting (Hicksite), which reunited with Philadelphia Yearly Meeting (Orthodox) in 1955, was the forerunner of the current Makefield Monthly Meeting.
Records of Makefield Monthly Meeting, 1736-2021, include: Hicksite men's meeting and joint session minutes, 1820-1975; vital records, 1736-2021; Hicksite women's minutes, 1820-1892; Orthodox women's minutes, 1827; ministers and elders' minutes, 1855-1892; treasurer's account book, 1821-1926; account book of Makefield Young Friends Association, 1923-1934; membership committee minutes, 1925-1926.
