Overview and metadata sections

A meeting for worship was established in this area by Chesterfield Monthly Meeting circa 1731. The meeting was known as "Bethlehem" until 1747, then as "Kingwood" from 1747 to 1859. In 1744, the meeting was transferred to Bethlehem [Quakertown] Monthly Meeting. Kingwood Preparative Meeting was established in 1756. The Orthodox branch of this preparative meeting was discontinued in 1828; its members were attached to Rahway and Plainfield Monthly Meeting (New York Yearly Meeting). Kingwood Meeting was discontinued in 1830. An indulged meeting at Kingwood was established under Rahway and Plainfield Monthly Meeting in 1835; it was discontinued in 1842. Kingwood Preparative Meeting (Hicksite) was probably discontinued before 1905. In 1859, the meeting for worship became known as "Quakertown"; Quakertown Meeting was discontinued in 1905. A new indulged meeting at Quakertown was established under Bucks Quarterly Meeting in 1957. This meeting became part of the current Quakertown Monthly Meeting in 1961.
