Overview and metadata sections
Byberry Monthly Meeting was established in 1810 by Abington Quarterly Meeting out of Horsham Monthly Meeting. Byberry Preparative Meeting was its only subordinate business meeting. The meeting remained with Hicksite Friends at the time of the Separation in Philadelphia Yearly Meeting in 1827; Orthodox members were attached to Frankford Monthly Meeting. The meeting reunited with Philadelphia Yearly Meeting of Friends (Orthodox) in 1955, and is currently active.
Records include: pre-Separation and Hicksite minutes of the Women's Meeting; minutes of the pre-Separation and Hicksite Ministry & Council committee and its predecessor, the Preparative Meeting of Ministers & Elders; pre-Separation and Hicksite vital records since 1726, including births, deaths, burials, marriage and membership records, certificates of removal, etc. as well as other types of records.

Collection Inventory
At the time of the Separation in Philadelphia Yearly Meeting in 1827-28, pre-Separation vital records were generally retained by the branch with which the recorder was affiliated. Researchers are advised to consider vital records which span this period carefully: in many cases, the meeting without the original records may have reconstructed these records for its membership only, giving the impression that individuals in the other branch were never members.

It has responsibility for care of members, authorizes removals and marriages, maintains discipline, considers the queries, manages meeting property, fosters social concerns, and reports regularly to the quarterly meeting. Beginning at the end of the 19th century, men and women ceased to hold separate business meetings, meeting instead in joint session.

George W. Evans was a member of Byberry who removed to Richland. His mental facilities were impaired, and he depended on the charitable contributions of a friend for his maintenance. Richland Monthly Meeting returned his certificate of removal to Byberry with assurances that the meeting would continue to take care of him on Byberry's behalf as long as he continued in Richland. However, Richland clearly indicates that if Evans' means of support was withheld, the meeting would inform Byberry of the fact.
