Overview and metadata sections

Birmingham Preparative Meeting was established in 12mo 1726/1727 by Concord Monthly Meeting. In 1827, at the time of the Hicksite Separation in Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, two preparative meetings emerged. Birmingham Preparative Meeting (Orthodox) was discontinued in 1922. Its members were transferred to West Chester Preparative Meeting (Orthodox). Birmingham Preparative Meeting (Hicksite) became Birmingham Monthly Meeting at Birmingham in 1956, at the dissolution of Birmingham Monthly Meeting (Hicksite).

Records include: Hicksite and United minutes, 1869-1956; Hicksite women's minutes, 1869-1886 (included in Joint minutes, 1869-1903); Orthodox minutes, 1852-1921; Orthodox women's minutes, 1886-1919; pre-Separation and Hicksite deeds and other property records, 1721-1903; Hicksite First Day School minutes, 1897-1949; miscellaneous papers, 1960; and Orthodox School Fund accounts, 1828-1845.
