Overview and metadata sections

In 1812, Duanesburg Quarterly Meeting was established, set off from Stanford Quarterly Meeting. At the 1828 Separation, Duanesburg Quarterly Meeting split into Hicksite and Orthodox branches. The Orthodox Branch of Duanesburg Quarterly Meeting was renamed Butternuts Quarterly in 1838, and its records are described in the collection for Butternuts Quarterly Meeting. Duanesburg Quarterly Meeting (Hicksite) began meeting half-yearly in 1902. In 1933, Duanesburg Half-Yearly Meeting changed its name to Quaker Street Half-Yearly and became Quaker Street Regional Meeting in 1972.

In 1986, Quaker Street Regional Meeting united with Northern Quarterly Meeting and Easton and Saratoga Half-Yearly Meeting to form Northeastern Regional Meeting. It is currently active.

Records of Northeastern Regional Meeting and some of its predecessors, Quaker Street Half-Yearly (Hicksite) and Regional Meetings, and Duanesburg Half Yearly and Quarterly Meetings (Hicksite and pre-Separation), 1812-ongoing. Records include minutes from men's, women's, and joint quarterly meetings for business as well as Ministers and Elders. Much of the collection consists of the files of the clerk of Quaker Street Half-Yearly Meeting in the 1950s and 1960s, including material related to the constituent meetings at the time. There is a gap in coverage from 1916-1943.

Duanesburg Quarterly Meeting (Orthodox) records, including some pre-Separation records retained by the Orthodox branch, are described in the collection of Butternuts Quarterly Meeting. Pre-1986 records from Northeastern Regional's predecessors in Northern Quarterly and Easton & Saratoga Half-Yearly are described separately as their own collections, with post-1986 records for the combined Northeastern Regional Meeting described here.

Records are arranged in three series by administrative chronology.

Included in Series I are Duanesburg Quarterly Meeting (1812-1828), Duanesburg Quarterly Meeting (Hicksite) (1828-1902), and Duanesburg Half-Yearly Meeting (1903-1933). Series II includes Quaker Street Half Yearly (1933-1972) and Quaker Street Regional Meeting (1972-1986). Series III includes records from Northeastern Regional Meeting (1986-ongoing) which was established out of Quaker Street Regional uniting with Northern Quarterly and Easton and Saratoga Half-Yearly Meetings.

Transferred from Haviland Records Room by NYYM in 1997.

Existence and Location of Copies

Available on microfilm in the Library:

  1. Swarthmore: Microfilm MR-NY376
Scope and Contents

Looseleaf minute book begun in 1960. It begins with a history of Quaker Street Half-Yearly's meetings from 1935-1942, copied from the minute book that during the period was shared by the Half-Yearly and by Quaker Street Monthly Meeting. At the time of transcription, the shared minute book remained in the care of Quaker Street Monthly Meeting (it is now in the library's collection RG2/NY/Q331).

Following the abstract of minutes 1935-1942 and administrative correspondence related to the transcription project is a typescript copy of the Quaker Street Half-Yearly Meeting minute book from 1943-1955 (the original minute book is also present in another file). Beginning in October 1955 are what the meeting preserved as record copies, mostly carbon copies and photocopies. These minutes include membership statistics, financial summary information, reports from constituent monthly meetings, committee reports (including Ministry & Counsel), state of the meeting reports, and other records related to the functioning of the half-yearly and its monthly meetings.

The file was at one point in a three-ring binder (no longer present) and was numbered consecutively by an unknown hand.

RG2/NY/N675 3.3. Monkton Ridge Oversight Committee records, 1995-1997.
Box 2
Scope and Contents

This folder includes records kept by Northeastern Regional Meeting regarding the complicated situation of Monkton Ridge. Monkton Ridge Monthly Meeting evolved into something of a joint community church group in association with two nearby Methodist congregations, but by the mid-1990s no longer had sufficient Quaker members to continue the business of being a monthly meeting. Laying down the meeting involved complications of property, assets, and membership. Additional material can be found in the Monkton Monthly Meeting Records (QM-NY-M623).

This file includes surveys from members of Monkton Ridge Meeting (largely those who regarded themselves as Methodist and did not realize they were not formally affiliated), correspondence regading the properties, deeds, and assets at issue, background material attempting to trace the organizational hierarchy of Monkton Ridge, and minutes of Northeastern Regional Meeting's Monkton Ridge Oversight Committee.
