Overview and metadata sections

The archives of the Peace Pledge Union offer insight into the working and effectiveness of the most significant British pacifist organization of the 20th century. The PPU played a central role in the debates on appeasement, air raid precautions, conscription; it also aided in the relief of Jewish refugees. Many leading public figures gave their support, including Frank Crozier, Edmund Blunden and Siegfried Sassoon. Other notable pacifists who joined the PPU including Aldous Huxley and Vera Brittain.
