Overview and metadata sections

The foundation of the Institute of Pacific Relations was laid in a proposal by the Pan-Pacific Union shortly after World War One. An international YMCA Conference was held in Honolulu, Hawaii, bringing together representatives from many Pacific countries. In 1924, an outgrowth of the Conference was the permanent organization, the Institute of Pacific Relations, to promote "impartial, frank, and thorough research into vital Pacific questions.".

The Swarthmore College Peace Collection is not the official repository for the records of this organization.
