Council for a Livable World; CLW; founded in 1962 by nuclear physicist Leo Szilard; originally named Council for Abolishing War, the name was changed in December 1962 to Council for a Livable World; Washington, D.C.-based non-profit, non-partisan advocacy organization dedicated to reducing the danger of nuclear weapons and increasing national security; its mission is "to advocate for sensible national security policies and to help elect congressional candidates who support them." The Council for a Livable World Education Fund began ca. 1980? Its mission was to raise consciousness in schools and communities about arms control and ballistic missile issues.
