Overview and metadata sections
John A. Ferch, '58, was a diplomat with the United States Foreign Service who served as ambassador to Honduras from 1982-1985. Born in Ohio, Ferch graduated from the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University in 1958. After graduating, Ferch joined the Foreign Service and later served as ambassador to Honduras. He was dismissed from that post in 1985 and subsequently retired from the Foreign Service. Later, he worked for the CIA as an intelligence officer, and subsequently served as director of international assistance programs in the U.S. Department of Labor.
The John A. Ferch Papers consist of ambassadorial correspondence; speeches, writings and collected research on Latin America (especially Cuba); Foreign Service personnel evaluations; ambassadorial schedules and appointments; photographs; and a significant amount of materials documenting the grievance Ferch lodged after his dismissal from his post in Honduras. Additionally, there are nearly two boxes of lecture notes taken by Ferch during his studies at Princeton.
The collection was donated by Ché Ferch-Jablonski in 2022. The accession number associated with this donation is ML-2022-017.
For preservation reasons, original analog and digital media may not be read or played back in the reading room. Users may visually inspect physical media but may not remove it from its enclosure. All analog audiovisual media must be digitized to preservation-quality standards prior to use. Audiovisual digitization requests are processed by an approved third-party vendor. Please note, the transfer time required can be as little as several weeks to as long as several months and there may be financial costs associated with the process. Requests should be directed through the Ask Us Form.
The collection was processed by Will Clements in 2025. Materials were rehoused into acid free folders but otherwise no physical arrangement was done at this time.
No materials were separated from the collection during 2025 processing,
