Hensel, H. Struve (Herman Struve), 1901-1991

Herman Struve Hensel (1901-1991) was an international lawyer. He served as the first General Counsel of the Navy from (1941-1945); as Assistant Secretary of the Navy i(1945-46), and as General Counsel of the United States Department of Defense (1955-1955).

Consists of two disbound scrapbooks of Hensel. One includes press releases, newspaper clippings, articles and speeches by Hensel; an address by James V. Forrestal; correspondence; photographs (43) principally relating to Hensel's oath of office as assistant secretary of the Navy (1/30/1945) and launchings of the aircraft carriers U.S.S. FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT (4/30/1945) and U.S.S. PRINCETON (7/8/1945). The second contains newspaper clippings relating to the Army-McCarthy Hearings (1954) and denials of charges raised against Hensel, Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security, by Senator Joseph McCarthy.

Gift of Struve Hensel in 1990. The accession number associated with this gift is ML1990-26.

Scrapbooks were housed in archival boxes and a collection-level description was created.

Material was not separated from this collecton.
